About Jonathan Kaye

Hi, I’m Jonathan Kaye, a Virgo, and co-author of Flash MX for Interactive Simulation: How to Create and Use Equipment Simulations, published by Delmar Thomson Learning in 2003. I am a technology enthusiast (really? probably couldn’t have guessed from my PhD in Computer Science) fascinated by the potential positive impact on mankind of product simulations, device simulations, equipment simulations, etc. Lately, I’ve been consumed with applications to advertising and marketing, but recognizing it’s all about training and performance improvement. I am also the President of Equipment Simulations LLC, an award-winning software development company focused on, of all things, equipment simulations (but you could have guessed that, couldn’t you have?).

Virtual ‘Tryvertising’ (aka Product Simulation Adv/Mkt)

I was reading an interesting post entitled “The Rise of Engagement Marketing” by “Faraz” at BrandActivationIdeas.blogspot.com, and he mentioned a word I had not seen before, “tryvertising”.  He attributed a definition to TrendWatching, and here’s what I pulled from their site: TRYVERTISING, which is all about consumers becoming familiar with new products by actually trying… Read More »

Unexpected Re-use of File object in Flex 4

I started getting more into Flash Builder/Flex 4 a few weeks ago, and all is going fine but I ran into what I believe is an odd situation: the File object being returned as the event.target from a “browseForOpen” invocation is the same over different calls.  This was throwing me off because I assumed that… Read More »

Interactive video — along the right direction

I just saw an interesting interview between Robert Scoble and a company called “Veeple.”  They make an embeddable video player that can enhance videos with clickable links.  Saying ‘clickable links’ is an understatement, but I don’t know how else to succintly describe it.  One adds in pictures or Flash animations onto videos, and the process… Read More »

Ads that Act Like Content

There is clearly a big movement underway to make advertising and marketing more content rich, as opposed to more sales-y, I imagine.  Over at Top Rank Online Marketing Blog, they made a short blog post (CLICK HERE) about Aaron Goldman, author of “Everything I Know About Marketing I Learned from Google.” In Aaron’s “Googley Lessons… Read More »

What Business Software Do You Use?

In my more procrastinatively-inspired moments, I reflect on the online business management tools I currently use and whether there are any all-encompassing tools that can help me reduce overall expenses.  Maybe someone out there will have a suggestion.  So here goes my list: Project management: Basecamp – the interface feels natural and customers love it… Read More »

Creating Content Specific to Customer Information Needs

I’ve been plowing through Joe Pulizzi’s Get Content, Get Customers (through my Droid’s Nook application, a bit tedious for books longer than about 80 pages), and I came across a statement that really knocked me out: Businesses create specific content so that customers react in a very specific way.  Without a clear understanding of the… Read More »
